The Golden Bird: A tribute to our nation and her dearest children; our military.
I received the following story from my elder brother, while I was in Kyoto.
...................................................................................................................................
A sadhu said that he happened to meet a man in a Japan village who was simply doing the home business of checking if a part of the cycle (cycle spring) was good quality or bad quality. He was getting some 1000 yens for finding bad parts and 2000 yens for finding good parts.
He was asked - "would you not pass most spring as good. That way you can earn more money".
His answer, "How can I do an act that will compromise on the quality of bicycles manufactures that Japan manufactures and that brings disrepute to my beloved country?"
...................................................................................................................................
I thought, "the same spirit made our country - the Golden Bird". There were fighters who would not take salary (or just take bare minimum needed for their family to live) but would protect society just as they felt it as service to the country. They would definitely serve more than what they would get. Same is true with the soldiers of our military whom I salute. Is the salary they get enough for the life they risk? It can never be enough according to me.
I heard from an elderly lady that we should not simply teach our children that 100 - 70 = 30. We should teach them that 100 soldiers from enemy attacked our army camp of 50 soldiers, and our army killed 70 of them and remaining 30 of them surrendered.
How much wisdom these elderly guys have! Though they are not fighting on the battlefield, but their fight off the battle field is still commendable. And guys like us would keep taking such words sincerely, so that we can always be proud about our country; the Golden Bird!
